About the

The Dunajec River Rafting is one of the most beautiful attractions in the Podhale region — a peaceful journey on a wooden raft through almost the entire Pieniny National Park.

We start from the best Slovak marina, which lets us skip the queues and enjoy the longest and most scenic section of the route.

After the rafting, you’ll experience a panoramic mountain pass, a tasting at a shepherd’s hut, and free time in Niedzica by the castle and dam.

Below, we describe each stage of the trip in detail.

Dunajec River Rafting
on wooden rafts

The rafting lasts around 1 hour and 50 minutes and takes place on traditional wooden rafts guided by Slovak rafters who speak Polish.

The route is about 12 km long, leading through the Dunajec Gorge and covering almost the entire Pieniny National Park — which is why this section is considered the most interesting and the most beautiful.

We travel in a small, intimate group, without waiting in queues — the rafts are reserved for our specific time.

Panoramic Route
through the Pieniny

After the rafting, we drive along a scenic road through the Leśnické Sedlo passo (723 m a.s.l.), offering beautiful views of the Tatras and the Pieniny.

Depending on conditions, it is also possible to take the route through Łapszanka — one of the most breathtaking viewpoints in the region.

This is the perfect moment for photos and a short break on the way to Niedzica.

It’s a place that always makes a great impression — peaceful, authentic, and full of mountain charm.

Everyone can choose something for themselves:
– visit the Czorsztyn Dam,

Frequently Asked Questions
about Dunajec River Rafting from Zakopane...

How long does the rafting itself take, and how long is the entire Dunajec rafting trip?

The rafting through the Dunajec Gorge in our version lasts around 1 hour and 50 minutes. It’s a calm, unhurried journey through the most beautiful section of the gorge, where you can admire limestone cliffs, river bends, and the characteristic peaks of the Pieniny Mountains.

The rafters guide the wooden rafts at a steady pace, making the entire route comfortable also for children and for anyone without prior experience in similar activities.

The full trip lasts approximately 7–8 hours, because in addition to the rafting itself, it includes transport from Zakopane or nearby towns, a drive over the scenic Leśnické Sedlo pass, a visit to a shepherd’s hut with a tasting of sheep cheeses and local spirits, and then free time in Niedzica — by the castle, the dam, or in nearby restaurants.

Breaks and attraction stops are planned so everyone has enough time to explore the area and enjoy the places without rushing. The schedule may vary slightly depending on traffic or weather, but we always strive to maintain a smooth and comfortable experience for the whole group.

This is a complete, full-day program that lets you truly enjoy the Pieniny region without haste.

The route length depends on the marina from which the rafting trip starts — and the difference can be really significant. In our program, we begin from the best Slovak marina, which allows us to cover approximately 12 kilometers.

This is by far the longest and most scenic version of the rafting trip, encompassing virtually the entire Dunajec Gorge as well as a large part of the Pieniny National Park.

Thanks to this, participants see not only the most famous sections of the gorge, but also the less visited parts — with distinctive rock formations, steep walls, and natural river bends that make a strong impression.

Many people point out that starting from this marina feels like experiencing a longer, more complete version of the rafting trip, without shortening the route or skipping important viewpoints.

It is precisely the length of the section and its course that make the Slovak-side rafting considered one of the most beautiful versions of this attraction, and the difference compared to shorter routes becomes noticeable just minutes after setting off.

Our rafting trip begins on the Slovak side, at a marina we have been cooperating with for years. This location is appreciated by both rafters and tourists, as it offers smooth logistics, convenient access to the rafts, and the option to reserve a specific departure time in advance.

Thanks to this, there is no need to stand in queues or wait for your turn — the rafts are prepared exclusively for our group.

Participants arrive there by minibus, which picks them up from Zakopane or nearby towns. Upon arrival, all that’s left is a short briefing from the rafters, taking your seat on the raft, and you’re ready to set off into the gorge.

It’s a comfortable, well-thought-out, and thoroughly tested logistical solution that lets you enjoy the attraction from the very first minutes, without stress or rushing.

In our offer, we focus on the traditional Dunajec rafting on wooden rafts — the most classic and comfortable way to experience the Dunajec Gorge. This option is suitable for everyone: families with children, couples, seniors, and anyone who simply wants to enjoy the Pieniny Mountains in a beautiful, peaceful setting. The rafts are guided by experienced rafters, so participants do not need any technical skills or physical preparation.

At the same time, it is possible to arrange a kayaking or rafting trip for private groups — an excellent option for larger families, groups of friends, companies, or VIP clients who want to reserve the entire excursion just for themselves. In this variant, we adjust the logistics, schedule, and pace of the trip to the group’s needs, ensuring privacy and a more intimate experience.

Yes — the Dunajec River Rafting is an attraction that works perfectly for children, even the younger ones. The route is calm, and the rafts are guided by experienced rafters who know the river and its character extremely well. Thanks to the stable construction of the wooden raft, there is no sudden rocking, ensuring a safe journey along the entire section. Children usually react with great excitement to the towering cliffs, birds gliding above the river, and the rafters’ stories, which often include humorous elements.

Additionally, our program is designed so that the youngest participants don’t get tired during the full-day trip. After the rafting, there is a break with a tasting at the shepherd’s hut and free time in Niedzica — where children can stretch their legs, play in the miniature park, or explore the castle surroundings.

Although the rafting takes place on a river, children do not need any swimming skills or special equipment. What matters is dressing them appropriately, especially on cooler days. Parents stay close to them the entire time, which increases the sense of safety and comfort throughout the experience.

The Dunajec rafting also takes place in light or moderate rainy weather, as the rafts are stable and the rafters are well prepared to operate them in various conditions. Participants receive rain ponchos, and the water route does not become more dangerous during brief showers — the Dunajec has its own natural rhythm, which the rafters have known for years.

The only situation in which the rafting may be halted is exceptionally strong wind, heavy rain, or a sudden weather breakdown that could affect participant safety. The decision is always made by the rafting organizers — with the comfort and safety of the group in mind. If the attraction is canceled, the trip is rescheduled or we arrange an individual solution for each participant. This ensures that you will never set out in conditions that could spoil the enjoyment of the rafting experience.

The history of Dunajec rafting dates back to the 19th century, when rafters began transporting goods between mountain villages on wooden rafts. At that time, the river was one of the region’s most important “transport routes,” and the rafters knew every bend and every spot where the current changed speed. Over time, it became clear that the scenery of the Pieniny Mountains was so exceptional that more and more tourists started appearing on the rafts, eager to see the gorge from the river’s perspective. The first documented tourist rafting trips were organized as early as the 1930s.

In the following decades, the rafting trip became one of the most recognizable attractions of Podhale and the Pieniny region, drawing visitors from all over Poland and the world. The rafting tradition was passed from generation to generation, and today the rafters still wear their characteristic outfits and preserve elements of the old customs. The wooden rafts are built according to traditional methods, and the rafters’ stories combine humor, legends, and regional history. The Dunajec River Rafting is not only a natural attraction — it is a part of local culture that has survived in an almost unchanged form for over a century.
